It’s easy to take high speed internet connections for granted, especially for those that are newer to the internet. High speed internet has not always been so readily available for consumers, and most people who connected to the internet from their homes would have to use a dialup connection when the world wide web was just getting started. Dialup was very slow, tedious, and had a tendency to cut off your connection during use. When this happened, you were forced to dialup again in order to reconnect to the internet, and that process could take some time; you could expect it to be anywhere from one minute to five minutes, depending on how efficient your internet service provider was working on that particular day – everything was pretty unreliable. These days with high speed connections, getting cut off is rare, and these types of services are far more mainstream now than they used to be. The cost of a good connection has dramatically decreased. Usually only colleges and internet related companies were capable of affording high speed internet to connect to the world wide web.
The speed of the internet has made so many things possible that were once completely un-thought of. Video sharing for instance, would be much more insignificant if it wasn’t for modern internet. For consumers looking to obtain high speed internet, it isn’t real hard to find – most large companies offer various premium services, including certain kinds of bundles to those that want them. Cable …
Android Becoming More Popular Than The iPhone
Nielsen has recently reported that consumers are responding more positively to Android than the iPhone. This is especially surprising considering the fact that Verizon just won a bid to carry the ultra exclusive smart phone. Android based smart phones narrowly beat out the iPhone in a consumer survey. Respondents were asked about what smart phone they planned on buying in the next 12 months, and just over 31% replied that they were eying the Android. This is slightly above the 30% that stated that they would be picking up the iPhone.
The iPhone 5 is due out sometime this year, and a number of Android based smart phones have already been released. Part of the reason that more consumers are tapping into Android technology is because they have a wide selection of manufacturers and mobile devices to choose from. Also included on the list of must have smart phones for 2011 was the Windows Phone 7. Although many were underwhelmed by the release of the Windows Phone 7, it seems that some die-hard Microsoft fans were impressed.
Interestingly enough, more than 55% of respondents said that they would never buy the iPhone. Some consumers whom have had negative experiences with the company have vowed never to support Apple again. This is good news for the Android market, but there are also other smart phones that may increase in popularity. Actual sales of the Android and the iPhone may differ given the fact that the study by Nielsen is only an …
Best Buy Reveals Plan To Do Battle Online
After Circuit City went out of business most consumers assumed that Best Buy would rightfully take its place. The only problem? Technically, Circuit City never went out of business, and Best Buy is struggling to entice consumers. Although Circuit City did file for bankruptcy, the company is still selling electronics via the web. In a few years, Circuit City could possibly re-open its doors, or it could follow in the footsteps of Amazon and become an online mega warehouse.
In a recent earnings call Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn told investors that the company was planning on countering slagging sales with more Internet based efforts. The company hopes that offering more products that can only be purchased on the web will help to rev up sales. Best Buy also knows that it will have to address that way in which it prices products. Frequently, consumers can find products that are sold in Best Buy stores for less online. Even after shipping and handling costs, retailer such as Amazon are easily beating Best Buy price wise.
Other areas that Best Buy intends on focusing on include consumer based electronics. Television sales have increased tremendously in the last few years, so Best Buy will increase the amount of television models that it sales three fold over the next year. It is not clear if these changes will be enough to keep Best Buy in business, but at least the company is acknowledging that is has some weaknesses. It will likely take some …

admin Camera Friendly Mobile Phones
December 6th, 2011
admin It is amazing how far mobile phones have progressed over the past few years and they are now such an integral part of our lives and this is not just in terms of keeping in contact with people and being able to make phone calls or send text messages while we are on the move. Instead, these devices have evolved far beyond their original purpose and have developed into a multimedia device that can be used for several different functions – often all at ones.
One thing that they have become very good at doing is replacing our digital cameras. Obviously the higher end cameras that photographers etc… use will not be replaced by the one on a mobile anytime soon however for the casual user you can often combine the two to great effect. If you are going on a night out for example then why take both your phone and a camera at the same time when you can incorporate the two devices into one? The Samsung Galaxy S2 is widely considered to be the best mobile phone camera on the market and it is true that it can deliver some very high resolution pictures. Not only is it a fantastic mobile phone in general in terms of the other features that it displays but it can easily replace your digital camera and save you hauling both of them around at the same time.
The Samsung is quite a high end device however and if you are looking for …
Using A Proper Computer Recycling Company
November 21st, 2011
admin Just about anything can be recycled and used again these days and oftentimes the items that you give in to be recycled are instead turned into something completely different or, at least, their materials are. Computers are no different and thousands are sent for recycling every year and people become more conscience of their carbon footprint and the consequence of their actions on the environment and the world around us.
Computer recycling is big business and it is a thriving and ever growing sector however you should always use a proper and legitimate company when sending your old and disused PC off to be recycled. A standard PC has many different materials that can be used again to make new products; these include the likes of aluminum and silicon and they are widely sought after in this day and age. Computers also tend to have harmful materials in them such as lead that can cause environmental damage if they are not disposed of properly. By just dumping your old computer anywhere then you could be opening the possibility of the lead seeping out and damaging the environment; similarly many companies that claim to be professional recyclers are, in reality, not and they often do not dispose of the waste properly and therefore are not really recycling at all.
A proper and legitimate company should offer a service that means that they will pick up the waste for you especially if it is from an office or a factory. Duty of …

Firefox Gets Redesigned to Be More Responsive
July 17th, 2011
admin Mozilla has been cranking up their development cycles and releasing a newer, faster and safer version of their popular web browser on a regular basis. Each new version offers more user friendly options that are geared toward keeping Firefox high in the top ranks. But, Mozilla’s newest endeavor, Mozilla Electrolysis is by far the most ambitious redesign of all.
Electrolysis will have the potential to greatly improve the browsers responsiveness. It will offer users smoother performance in graphics, increased security and make better use of multicore processors. The browser will be more suitable to the numerous multicore processors that have flooded the market like those in newer computers, tablets and mobile phones.
Increased browser speed will come from the separation of the user interface from the part of the browser that handles the tab contents. And, from better utilization of a process that is known as garbage collection. During this process memory that has already been used is reused. Garbage collection can result in a pause in some programs especially large applications such as Facebook.
Separate memory processes will make it much harder for the memory to be tampered with from malicious processes reducing security risks. However, separating the domains does not come with some downsides. The main problem with be an increase in memory usage. One element that Electrolysis will offer, the separation of the browsers plugins to their own patch of memory has already been released in Firefox 3.6.
Well aware of the fierce competition in the browser market, Mozilla has been …

Google Buys Out Social Networking Site
August 27th, 2010
admin Google, Inc. the search engine giant and ever expanding empire of web based services has announced that it recently purchased a start up social network site called Angstro, a small site that builds apps for the exchanging of info across social services by pulling in data from social networking niche sites like LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. Experts see this as Google’s attempt to expand into the social networking market which it has, in the past, struggled to achieve in success in. One of the founders of Angstro, Rohit Khare, posted to his blog recently that he had been hired by Google to work on a social networking related project, but sources were unable to confirm which project that is since Khare declined to comment on its specific nature. Khare has long hoped to have open social networking across multiple sites so experts in the industry believe that he may have been brought on board Google to help create software or services that would head in that direction and, if the results desired become achieved, open up that market for users who would otherwise need to maintain multiple presences across multiple sites.
Those close to Google have observed that the company has spent the summer of 2010 building up a portfolio of engineers and software designers in the social networking market who are specialist in that kind of tech. Further investing in Jambool which builds apps and virtual goods, along with online game maker Zynga, shows that Google may have big plans …
HP Slate Seeks Advantage Over Apple iPad Through Video Conferencing
April 5th, 2010
admin While the tablet market is expected to reach critical mass as a $4 billion industry by the end of 2010, the race appears to be won so far by Apple with their new wildly popular iPad that has been a critical darling in recent months. Other tablet style devices are still behind the curve with the exception of Hewlett Packard’s new Slate PC tablet which is setting out to tear into Apple’s market share with a vigorous claim to stake. According to HP, the camera included on their Slate device will give them a very strong edge against the iPad as a consumer or business ready video teleconferencing machine, something consumers have long hoped for to fulfill the video phone fantasy set up by Hollywood so many decades ago. According to a recent video released by HP, the Slate which comes out later in 2010 will be able to do full fledged Skype conversations that included video and offered a much faster way to connect users with their friends or colleagues over a mobile network. The tablet market is still quite young, but analysts predict that Apple will only be able to establish itself so firmly before it must endure the inevitable onslaught by powerful aspirants to the throne such as HP.
HP’s primary angle, according to analysts coverage of the videos, has been to emphasize consumer expectations that their tablet will be able to perform the vast majority of functions that their notebook computers are currently able to. Social media …
